Grilling Season is here & I don’t know about you… but BEEF is on the top of my list.
We are all looking for an alternative to the same ol’ Lean Protein. Let’s face it, chicken & turkey can get boring. Adding in Pork & seafood is my saving grace, but most of us love our BEEF!! I have seen things come & go over the years… the search for the new lean meat. Bison & Ostrich sounded like great options, but the end result for me was a dry flavorless dinner that was pretty pricey.
Recently I noticed a few local restaurants advertising this new Healthy Beef..??? Honestly, it sounded to good to be true. I figured, why not… well the result was a perfectly lean, flavorful burger! The search was ON to learn all I could about this fancy breed of cattle!!!
A Healthier Beef
Certified Piedmontese Beef is unlike any other. An exceptional breed of genetically superior cattle combined with a disciplined approach to animal care and husbandry produces a consistent high-quality product. Extraordinarily lean, incredibly tender. Certified Piedmontese Beef provides consumers with a healthier beef option without sacrificing flavor. It’s lower in calories, has less fat than regular beef and is endorsed by the American Heart Association as a heart-healthy food. Piedmontese Beef has half the cholesterol of regular beef and far less fat than salmon, a swordfish fillet or believe it or not a skinless chicken breast. The heavy muscling of the breed results in more tender and juicy steaks, roasts and grounds. Plus, the beef is all natural, no steroids, no antibiotics, no force-feeding, just pure clean protein. The bonus is this meat is packed full of all the good stuff, higher in polyunsaturated fats and in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids,Full of riboflavin, B-12, iron and zinc. It’s basically the creme de la creme of beef.
Rare & Exceptional Genetics
Piedmontese Beef, a double-muscle brand of beef that originates from the Alpine region of northern Italy and is now raised across the United States. Known as the Arnold Schwarzenegger of cattle, some say it’s the beef of the future.
The Piedmontese breed is unique in having an “inactive myostatin gene”. The term describes the breed’s unique design for developing extra muscle mass but very little fat. This amazing breed of cattle also produce shorter muscle fibers and less connective tissue. The result is an efficient source of lean meat that, in spite of the absence of the fatty marbling typical of standard breeds, remains tender and juicy.
The research was COMPLETE… now time to see for myself!! A trip to my local butcher was in order. The cast of character’s was 2 Piedmontese RIB STEAKS, freshly ground black pepper, Himalayan salt & a dash of Emeril’s Seasoning.
*I always bring my beef to room temp before grilling. I am a SUPER RARE kinda girl, so about 2 minutes per side for the steaks in this TOP photo(about 3/4″ thick) & they were PERFECT!!
In the end, what matters most is the combination of good taste and good nutrition. Certified Piedmontese Beef is lean and tender, so it tastes good and it’s better for you than many other types of beef. I believe this will be my GO TO for Beef!!
